Company History

Portraits, Inc. is the result of an exciting consolidation of two of America’s leading portrait art firms, Portraits, Inc. and Portrait Brokers of America.   Portrait Brokers of America, Inc. was founded in 1986 in Birmingham, Alabama.  From a starting group of twelve artists, Portrait Brokers of America grew to become one of the top portrait firms in the United States.  Portraits, Inc. was founded in New York, NY in 1942 and grew to be one of the world’s most esteemed portrait art galleries. These two companies have a combined experience of 90 years assisting clients who want to select well-known artists to create fine art portraits.

We have beautiful portrait galleries in both our Birmingham and New York locations.  Our New York location, right across from Rockefeller Plaza, is in the heart of the busiest business, entertainment, shopping and dining area of the world!  Our Birmingham location, which also houses our corporate offices, is in the growing downtown arts district in one of the south’s most vibrant and livable cities.

Our company represents almost 200 national and international portrait artists.  Sales Associates located in communities across the United States have been trained to represent these artists and provide excellent service to families, corporations and public institutions that are seeking the finest commissioned portraits available.
